In this blog entry, I’d like to next take a closer look at Judaism itself, at some of the major subdivisions that can be found within it, and at how large or small these major subdivisions are, relative to each other. The most important code, the Shulkhan Arukh, largely determines Orthodox Jewish religious practice up to today. It is studied in Religious Studies courses and taught to Jewish children in Hebrew schools. There is no shame on you and the family and husband you have now are testimony in favor of my opinion.

Reform Judaism has developed an egalitarian prayer service in the vernacular (along with Hebrew in many cases) and emphasizes personal connection to Jewish tradition. It is also recited daily upon waking and on significant occasions such as approaching death. The prohibition against cursing (§239) is entitled 'Not to curse any Jew, whether man or woman. Taking time off from work, once a week, was invented by Judaism. First of all, however, what is wrong with eating those things? – Nothing, unless one is allergic to any of them. Also, it is not limited to legal matters. Every human being, Islam affirms, stands to benefit from these divine dispensations. Zionism emerged as a forceful argument against the idea that Judaism is in essence a ‘religion,’ that is a system of belief, a ‘faith’ that is mostly a personal, apolitical matter of ‘spirituality.’ The idea that Judaism is a religion — exactly that which is labeled under this title and nothing beyond it — is usually accredited to Moses Mendelssohn. The second and chief covenant was made 450 years later when Moses led the Jews out of slavery in Egypt (the exodus) back to the lands of Canaan.
